Reasonable Accommodations and “Interactive Process”

DMG offers both live and on-demand training on navigating through the Interactive Process and Identifying Reasonable Accommodations for positive outcomes and legal compliance.

Why Consider Reasonable Accommodations?

Employers are required under State and Federal disability laws to consider reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities. The law makes it clear that the focus for employers needs to be on engaging in an interactive process with the employee to determine how they can support employees in performing their essential job functions.

What are the Penalties?

You do not want to end up in court. A 2015 study shows that simply defending a discrimination claim can cost upwards of $125,000 and take on average 275 days to resolve. And that does not even address the potential fines and penalties an employer can face for failing to accommodate an employee with a disability.

What are the Benefits?

Returning an employee with a disability to productive work is a win-win. Aside from meeting legal obligations, employers retain valuable, trained and productive employees when successful and effective reasonable accommodations are identified and implemented.
